GAC AION Reaffirms Safety of Magazine Battery with No Fire Incidents in 1.3 Million Vehicles Worldwide

GAC AION highlights its Magazine Battery 2.0 innovation, guaranteeing a record of zero fire incidents among 1.3 million vehicles worldwide.

GAC AION Thailand revealed that Magazine Battery 2.0 is GAC's second-generation battery technology officially launched in 2023. It builds upon Magazine Battery 1.0, which passed the Nail Penetration Test without igniting fire, and adds enhanced thermal management and multi-level protection systems to better handle situations that may affect battery safety.

Key features of Magazine Battery 2.0

1. Five-layer safety protection structure reduces heat propagation between battery cells.

2. Super-stable electrode interface enhances durability and stability of cells under high-temperature conditions.

3. Heat-blocking phase change material absorbs and controls internal battery heat.

4. Dual-layer cooling system improves battery heat dissipation efficiency.

5. Cell fire extinguishing system detects and controls abnormal heat at the battery cell level.

6. Sixth-generation cloud-based battery management system (BMS) uses Big Data and AI to monitor and manage battery status 24/7.

Additionally, the battery underwent the Nail Penetration Test, a standard safety test for electric vehicle batteries. Magazine Battery 2.0 was further tested under severe damage conditions, including a real gunshot test, to evaluate its heat control performance and reduce the risk of internal fire spread.

Certified testing agencies conducted the gunshot test, firing a 5.56-millimeter rifle bullet from 15 meters at the Magazine Battery 2.0 pack. While some battery cells were damaged and continuous smoke was observed, the system managed to control the temperature of adjacent cells without flames spreading to other cells in the pack. This reflects GAC's development focus on minimizing heat propagation risks inside the battery.

More than 1.3 million vehicles worldwide demonstrate real-world use of Magazine Battery technology.

Real-world user data is a key factor reflecting the reliability of the technology. Currently, GAC's Magazine Battery has been installed in over 1.3 million electric vehicles globally, covering a total accumulated driving distance of more than 50 billion kilometers.

Since its market launch in 2021, there have been no confirmed fire incidents attributed to the quality of the battery pack components. This highlights the widespread use of Magazine Battery technology and serves as important real-world reference data from electric vehicle users worldwide.
