Wuling Darion EV Tops MPV Sales Charts in Thailand

The Wuling Darion EV has risen to become the top-selling MPV in Thailand, focusing on premium electric vehicle innovations for families.

Wuling revealed that the company achieved the number one sales ranking in the MPV category in Thailand for August. The Wuling Darion EV, also known as the Wuling Starlight 730, is a 100% electric MPV from SAIC-GM-Wuling, which has drawn significant attention in Southeast Asia's automotive market. It has built its reputation in less than five months since its official launch.

However, this sales championship is significant not only for the numbers but also as a key turning point in Thailand's MPV market, where consumers are increasingly embracing new energy innovations. The Wuling Darion EV has won over a diverse range of users, from government agencies and private sectors to businesspeople and high-income groups. What factors contributed to the rapid success of this model?

In Thailand's MPV market, this represents a new era of electric vehicles. The Wuling Darion EV was launched in Thailand in March 2026. It is powered entirely by electricity and priced between 799,000 and 859,000 baht (approximately 163,000 to 175,000 yuan), positioning it within a truly sought-after price range.

According to August sales reports, the Wuling Darion EV registered 897 units, soaring to the number one spot in Thailand's MPV market, capturing a 34% market share in a single month. This marks a remarkable breakthrough in the Thai automotive industry.

While some may attribute the growth in sales to price competition, consumer behavior surveys reveal that the Wuling Darion EV has impressively built trust and penetrated the premium customer segment. It has been chosen for use in government fleets, leading companies, and partnerships with luxury hotels.

Regarding the profile of Wuling Darion EV buyers,

Age range 30 to 50 years old,

Monthly income of 100,000 baht or more,

Occupations include business owners, senior executives, civil servants, doctors, and other high-level professionals,

Family size of three members or more.

The survey also found that 23% of buyers appreciate the dual electric sliding doors, spacious seven-seat cabin, and modern, luxurious exterior. At a price below 900,000 baht, consumers experience premium comfort and luxury at great value.

Furthermore, the Wuling Darion EV stands out with balanced performance, the longest wheelbase in its class (2,910 mm), and the widest middle aisle in the second row. It offers comprehensive amenities, an intelligent AI assistant system, and the Shenlian battery technology, which provides long driving range and high safety tailored to Thailand’s climate and usage. It is cost-effective with Thailand’s electricity rates, with travel costs per kilometer only one-sixth that of conventional combustion engine MPVs. This success in Thailand follows proven popularity and capability in multiple markets.

In China, the Wuling Darion EV launched in November last year and held the MPV sales champion title for vehicles priced below 150,000 yuan for ten consecutive months, with cumulative sales exceeding 65,000 units.

In Hong Kong, it is sold at 308,800 Hong Kong dollars (over three times the mainland China price) but still secured the MPV sales champion position for June and July, with 159 registrations.

Achieving top sales positions across multiple regions within less than a year proves that the Wuling Darion EV meets user needs through understanding consumer demands, sincerity in production, and offering superior product value.

Featuring premium body dimensions with a length of 4.91 meters and a 2.91-meter wheelbase, complete functions including the only dual electric sliding doors in its class, the efficient Shenlian battery, and cost-effective ownership, the Wuling Darion EV has demonstrated its appeal. In China, it fits modern family needs; in Hong Kong, it is a cost-effective option amid high living and fuel costs; and in Thailand, it fills the gap for electric family vehicles offering luxury, value, and practicality.
