A test drive review of the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 van reveals it offers comfortable passenger seating and comprehensive entertainment features. It is considered a luxury MPV carrying the JACK WEY surname, a brand associated with the company chairman.
After GWM recently launched the WEY G9 Hi4 MPV, we had the opportunity to test drive this model. The GWM WEY G9 Hi4 is an all-wheel-drive MPV operating in nine different modes but consumes energy like a two-wheel-drive vehicle. The acceleration is tuned to be smooth rather than abrupt. A highlight is the thoughtfully designed suspension system.
The front suspension uses McPherson Struts and the rear a Multi-Link setup with FRD (Frequency Reactive Damper) shock absorbers, which effectively absorb both low and high-frequency vibrations. This design avoids the costly maintenance of air suspension systems. Our tests confirmed the suspension handles road conditions very well.
Notably, the WEY G9 Hi4 features a structure made of 83% high tensile steel and benefits from the brand's best engineering. As a PHEV, it includes a large 44.28 kWh Lithium Ternary NMC battery with dual motors, enabling an electric-only range of up to 170 kilometers (NEDC). It supports AC charging at 6.6 kW and DC fast charging at 60 kW, allowing a 30-minute charge at EV stations to gain about 100 kilometers of electric range—ideal for long trips.
Combined with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with a DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission), the system produces 442 horsepower and 642 Nm of torque. The intelligent 4WD Hi4 system works with iTVC (Intelligent Torque Vectoring Control) to deliver power to wheels within 0.01 seconds, keeping the nearly 3-ton vehicle agile and stable.
The WEY G9 Hi4 is equipped with Coffee OS 3.3, which integrates AI to intelligently manage all vehicle functions. It features a real-time 3D display of vehicle status, touchscreen controls for devices like the tailgate, voice command support in 21 languages including local accents, and advanced Petal Maps Global Navigation with 3D maps and live traffic updates. Apps can be downloaded via the GWM App Store with seamless smartphone connectivity.
The interior uses environmentally friendly materials that reduce the emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Ultrasonic welding replaces adhesives in parts, minimizing glue use inside the vehicle.
Additionally, eco-friendly plastics are cured at 80°C for two hours to reduce odors and VOCs. The GWM WEY G9 is the first MPV in China certified as formaldehyde-free and has earned a five-star rating from the China Green Car Assessment Program (C-GCAP). This ensures a scent-free cabin that is safe for passengers of all ages.
The 2026 GWM WEY G9 Hi4 is priced at 2,349,000 baht (CBU imported from Malaysia). It comes with a 5-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, an 8-year or 160,000 km hybrid battery warranty, and the WEY SERVICE EXCLUSIVE ASSISTANT program.
