Authorities detained a soldier accused of raping a 15-year-old girl and took him to the military court for detention. He faces three serious charges and bail has been denied due to concerns over tampering with evidence.
At 09:20 on 18 April 2026 at Chanasongkram Police Station, Sub-Lieutenant Chayut Tangkhunsombat, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation), detained Private Phasit Gomahi, from the 1st Army Region, the suspect in a severe criminal case. He was taken to the military court on Srisaman Road, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province, for the first 12-day detention period. Bail was opposed. The investigator charged him with three serious offenses, including:
1. Rape by using violence while the victim was unable to resist.
2. Abducting a minor over 15 but under 18 years old away from their guardian without the minor's consent.
3. Detaining or restraining another person, depriving them of their personal freedom.
This case arose from an incident on 15 April 2026 inside a temporary restroom during the Songkran festival on Khao San Road, where CCTV clearly recorded the suspect's actions.
While being escorted into the police vehicle, reporters tried to ask several questions, but the suspect refused to answer and remained silent and motionless throughout.
The investigator disclosed that the suspect met officials in the morning to hear the charges and provided his testimony during the investigation, which has now concluded. Evidence was gathered to file for detention at the court today.
However, at the end of the detention request, the investigator opposed bail because this is a serious crime with severe penalties, fearing the suspect might flee or interfere with the evidence.
