Brazen behavior "Young man from a cannabis shop" reveals the cause "Big bike gang" assaulted and injured him, affirming he will pursue legal action to the fullest extent
In the case of a brazen big bike gang assaulting a cannabis shop employee in downtown Chiang Mai, forcing him to crawl and beg before kicking him under the chin and repeatedly stomping him, while recording the attack, police at Chang Phueak Police Station have arrested two suspects, filed three serious charges, and are urgently pursuing the remaining accomplices for prosecution.
On 2 August 2026, reporters visited the scene in front of a cannabis shop near the Pratu Chang Puek market, Si Phum Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province. The area is a narrow alley but equipped with several CCTV cameras from shops and hotels that captured the incident.
Mr. Chai, 21, the cannabis shop employee who was assaulted, is currently staying at a cannabis shop in downtown Chiang Mai due to ongoing fear. He showed his heavily injured body with swollen wounds on his face, head, and body. Particularly, his face and head were bruised with signs of blood clots, including stitches on his head and wounds on his face caused by impacts from an electronic cigarette device. His body also had abrasions and soreness. He is now taking medication and resting but suffers from headaches, with doctors monitoring for side effects despite a brain X-ray showing no issues.
Mr. Chai explained the incident stemmed from earlier interactions when he used a dating app to talk to a woman. They both claimed to be single and continued chatting for a while.
Around 30 July, he was asked by the woman to buy something and deliver it to a hotel in the city. He went to the room she indicated via chat. After about half an hour of talking, several knocks came at the door. The woman then said her boyfriend had arrived and told him to hide on the balcony.
When the door opened, several large men entered, one of whom, the woman's boyfriend, carried a knife. Feeling unsafe, Mr. Chai risked jumping from the fifth-floor balcony. Luckily, an awning and drainage pipe broke his fall, causing only minor injuries before he escaped. The woman then blocked all chat channels. Mr. Chai thought the matter was over and returned to work at the cannabis shop as usual.
However, late on 31 July, the big bike gang arrived, parking their motorcycles to block the alley in front of the shop. About five to six men, armed with knives and guns, called him—he was smoking outside—to come over. They threatened him, forced him to crawl and beg for forgiveness, then began assaulting him. They kicked his face and chin, causing dizziness, then repeatedly stomped on him, slammed his head on the ground multiple times, and struck his face and body with an electronic cigarette until he lost consciousness.
The shop owner intervened to stop the attack. Before fleeing, one gang member tried to settle the matter by throwing 1,000 baht at him, asking not to report it. The attackers also stole the memory card from the shop's CCTV. However, other CCTV cameras from nearby hotels and shops had also recorded the event. Afterward, Mr. Chai filed a police report and learned that some suspects had been arrested.
Mr. Chai remains fearful that more attacks might occur, so he dares not return home despite police arrests. He noted that suspects were released after charges were filed.
He is determined to pursue the case fully, citing serious injuries and damage. Although police have initially charged the suspects, he plans to submit a medical certificate on the upcoming Monday to add charges for severe bodily injury. So far, neither the opposing party nor police have contacted him for negotiation or mediation.
