The Royal Thai Police praised all operational units involved in controlling the incident at a school in Nonthaburi Province. They revealed the story behind the Metropolitan Police Division 7 team who abandoned their mission to win a competition, skipped a doctor's appointment, and wore shorts but showed wholehearted dedication to help the public.
On 10 August 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police (RTP spokesperson), stated that the Royal Thai Police, led by Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, praised all police units involved—including Provincial Police Region 1, Nonthaburi Provincial Police, Plai Bang Police Station, Arintharat 26 Unit, support units from the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and all related personnel—for their assistance to teachers, students, and the public during the incident at a school in Nonthaburi Province on 7 August 2026.
Furthermore, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong revealed that after reviewing social media coverage showing a police officer wearing shorts but fully equipped walking with the team into Thepsirin Nonthaburi School to support the operation, the Metropolitan Police Division 7 confirmed the officer was Police Corporal Setthawut Sangmuang, a patrol commander at Sala Daeng Police Station and a member of the division's special operations team. On that day, upon learning of the incident, he chose to abandon his personal duties to support the mission immediately.
The RTP spokesperson explained the background of this impressive image: Police Corporal Setthawut was dressed in casual clothes and shorts because he was attending an investigative training course on the day of the incident and had requested leave to see a doctor. However, while traveling, upon receiving the emergency alert, he did not hesitate to immediately abandon his personal mission, quickly retrieve his tactical gear from his vehicle, and head to support the team to resolve the situation as urgently as possible.
It is also known that this team of police officers, representing Metropolitan Police Division 7, was participating in the MPB S.W.A.T Challenge 2026, an important event to test the tactical special operations capabilities of the Metropolitan Police Bureau. Upon learning of the violent incident,
the entire team decisively chose to forfeit the competition rights immediately and rushed to the scene to support the mission of resolving the real situation. This reflects their firm commitment to putting public care first, prioritizing the safety of the people, and maintaining readiness to perform their duties at any time. Even if their attire was not formal, their skills and dedication were always ready.
