Fire at Spanish Hospital Triggers Chaotic Evacuation of Patients, Doctors, and Nurses

A fire at a hospital in Spain caused panic as flames spread rapidly due to flammable insulation on the building's exterior. Officials quickly evacuated patients throughout the building and managed to control the fire in time. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed.

On 26 November 2025 GMT+7, a major fire broke out at Santa Lucia Hospital in the city of Cartagena, in southeastern Spain. Flames erupted from the rooftop of the five-story building and rapidly spread along the exterior walls, driven by strong winds and the building's flammable surface materials, producing thick black smoke visible across the city.

Local media reported that firefighters deployed extensive efforts to contain the situation and succeeded in extinguishing the fire quickly. Prior to that, a large-scale evacuation was conducted to move patients and medical staff from the danger zone to safer areas within the hospital and nearby medical centers.

Local authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported but activated the full emergency plan and began structural inspections of the affected building areas. Most damage was concentrated on the front and central parts of the building, while critical care wards and intensive units remained operational. Experts are investigating the fire's origin, which is believed to have started on the upper floor balcony.
