Russia Launches Drone Attack on Ukraines Capital, Causing Power Outage Affecting Over 600,000 People

Russia launched an attack on the Kyiv region in western Ukraine, injuring 29 people and causing power outages that affected more than 600,000 residents.

Foreign news agencies reported that Russia sent nearly 600 drones and launched 36 missiles targeting the energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region, home to Ukraine's capital, overnight into Saturday, 29 Nov 2025 GMT+7, causing power outages impacting over 600,000 people.

Ukraine's Ministry of Energy stated that over 500,000 of those affected by the power outages reside in Kyiv, with the remainder living in the surrounding areas.

Later, Dtek Energy, the electricity provider in Kyiv, announced that restoration crews had restored power to more than 360,000 households.

Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine's civilian and energy infrastructure over recent weeks, as Ukraine approaches winter and requires energy for heating, amid ongoing unresolved peace negotiations.

Russia's Ministry of Defense revealed that their military launched a major attack against Ukraine’s industrial and military enterprises as well as the energy plants supporting their operations.

Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said the latest Russian attack injured at least 29 people, including a 13-year-old child.

Ukraine is also targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure, which it describes as an effort to limit Russia’s main export revenue.

Ukraine’s security agencies reported on Saturday that their forces attacked two oil tankers in the Black Sea, believed to be part of Russia’s “shadow fleet”—vessels used to evade international sanctions.
