A raccoon broke into a liquor store in Virginia, drank the alcohol inside until it got drunk and caused damage, then fell asleep in the restroom where store employees found it the next morning.
International news agencies reported that an employee of a liquor store in Ashland, Virginia, U.S., was shocked when he opened the store on the morning of Saturday, 29 Nov 2025 GMT+7, to find the bottom floor where Scotch and whiskey are stored in complete disarray, with broken bottles scattered, a collapsed ceiling panel, and alcohol spilled all over the floor.
The scene inside the store looked like someone had broken in and vandalized the place, but upon further inspection, the employee found a raccoon passed out on the restroom floor, intoxicated and unconscious. He concluded that this raccoon was the culprit behind the incident.
Samantha Martin, an officer from the local wildlife control office who was called to the scene, told the media, "Personally, I like raccoons; they're small and very amusing animals. This one fell from a ceiling panel, then went on a rampage and drank everything."
Martin added that she took the raccoon back to the animal shelter and couldn’t stop laughing all the way there. "It was just another day in the life of an animal control officer," she said.
Meanwhile, the Hanover County Animal Shelter praised Martin for handling the break-in case and confirmed that the raccoon has since sobered up.
"After sleeping for a few hours with no signs of injury (other than possibly a hangover and some poor life choices), it was safely released back into the wild. Hopefully, it has learned that breaking into places without permission is not a good idea," the shelter stated in a press release.
