Fifty-four Palestinian couples in southern Gaza attended a mass wedding ceremony amid the ruins caused by war, holding hope that the situation will improve.
The 54 couples wore traditional Palestinian patterned clothing and held hands as they walked past collapsed buildings around them, saying that despite their losses, they hope to start anew and pray for a swift end to the war.
For Palestinians, weddings are often elaborate celebrations lasting several days, serving as important social and economic occasions that signify the future of many families, featuring dancing, joyful street parades, and plentiful food prepared for guests.
The ceremony took place in Khan Younis, an area with many displaced people fleeing the fighting. It was supported by the Al Fares Al Shaheem humanitarian aid program from the United Arab Emirates, which not only organized the event but also provided the couples with small amounts of money and essential items to start their married lives together.
Some brides and grooms said that although the wedding was a joyful occasion, it was incomplete as many have lost family members in the war, and they hope this event marks the beginning of a better future.
