Zhejiang Province has started trialing a new model of "traffic police robot" that can command and oversee road safety using advanced artificial intelligence. This represents a major milestone in field testing applications.
This traffic police robot, named "Hangxing No.1," was developed by the Hangzhou Traffic Police Tactical Unit (TPTU). It is equipped with high-resolution cameras and numerous sensors, enabling it to detect traffic violations in real time and issue voice warnings through an intelligent audio system to pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles to comply with regulations.
A commuter said that the robot immediately issued a warning when they crossed a line by less than half a meter, noting the rapid response. A motorcycle rider mentioned that the robot helps reduce the workload of officers and believes it could become a future trend.
Beyond detecting traffic violations, "Hangxing No.1" can work with traffic lights to assist officers in controlling traffic and monitoring risk areas. Its mobility allows quick repositioning, enhancing traffic management efficiency in congested zones.
Officer Zhang Wanzhe explained that the robot operates in two modes: standing to direct traffic in the road center and guiding at various intersections. Currently in trial use, the research team plans to install a large language model to enable intelligent voice interactions, provide information to the public, and support various commands more effectively.
