Kao Kim Hourn, ASEAN Secretary-General and a Cambodian national, urged Thailand and Cambodia to urgently end the escalating fighting along their border.
On 11 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Kao Kim Hourn spoke at the opening ceremony of a regional meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The meeting focused on the fighting situation along the Thailand-Cambodia border, where he called on both countries to swiftly cease hostilities amid rising tensions.
Kao Kim Hourn said that residents on both sides are suffering greatly and have become direct victims of the ongoing conflict, which is being closely monitored by the region and the international community.
The current violence between Thailand and Cambodia erupted following clashes last Sunday that injured two Thai soldiers. This has destabilized the ceasefire agreement promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump in July, which had previously helped end five days of fighting stemming from a long-standing dispute.
