Foreign Media Reports Trump Confirms He Will Call, Scheduling Talks with Thailand and Cambodia to End Border Conflict

Reuters reports that Donald Trump is preparing a key phone call with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia, aiming to end the border conflict and stop fighting between the two countries.

According to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that he is arranging an important phone call with the leaders of both Thailand and Cambodia to discuss the escalating tensions between the two neighboring Southeast Asian countries on Thursday local time, though the exact time has not been specified.

Trump told reporters he believes he can help both sides end the fighting and expressed hope to ease the situation that has flared up again along the border after several weeks.

This effort comes as the Thai–Cambodian border conflict has once again intensified, with reports of multiple clashes along the more than 800-kilometer border—the fiercest fighting since July, following a fragile ceasefire earlier in the year.

Previously, Trump played a role as a mediator helping to revive the ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia; in October, he participated in signing a ceasefire agreement in Kuala Lumpur. However, tensions have reignited again in December.

This phone conversation is being closely watched regionally as it represents a U.S. effort to promote diplomatic talks and reduce tensions that threaten the stability of ASEAN and the broader region.
