Residents of Beijing, China, welcomed the first snow of the year as a new cold wave swept in, with heavy snow expected to continue through Saturday morning. Several districts face risks of snowstorms.
On 12 Dec 2025 GMT+7, China’s official Xinhua news agency reported that Beijing experienced its first snowfall of the season after a rapid spread of cold air. The snow began in the morning and is expected to continue until early Saturday morning.
The Beijing Meteorological Office forecasted moderate to heavy snow across many parts of the city, while some districts such as Fangshan
Mentougou, Changping, Yanqing, Huairou, and Miyun may face heavy snow, with some areas experiencing conditions severe enough to qualify as a snowstorm.
Reports indicate that officials in several districts are accelerating preparations, including salting roads and expressways and preparing traffic management to reduce accidents from potentially slippery road conditions.
