Israel Continues Airstrikes on Gaza Strip, Killing Senior Hamas Official

Israel announced new airstrikes across several areas in the Gaza Strip, killing a senior leader of the armed Hamas group. The strikes reportedly caused multiple deaths and injuries.

On Saturday, 13 Dec 2025, the Israeli military and the Shin Bet security agency jointly stated that their forces killed Raed Saad, head of weapons production for the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s armed wing, in an airstrike targeting a vehicle in Gaza City.

Saad was one of the most prominent commanders of the Al-Qassam Brigades and led several battalions during the 7 Oct 2023 attacks on Israeli communities, which triggered Israel's declaration of war on Gaza and ongoing military operations.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Hamas-run civil defense, told BBC News that the Israeli strike killed four people, and many civilians nearby were injured by the blast.

Local Hamas officials in Gaza told BBC that the attack also killed Saad’s aide and a lower-ranking officer named Abu Imad Al-Laban.

It is believed Saad was a member of a newly formed five-person military council established since the October ceasefire, and Israel has attempted to kill him multiple times.

Saad has long been considered one of Hamas’s most wanted individuals by Israel, which has tried to assassinate him for over twenty years.
