Foreign news agencies reported that a gunman opened fire at Brown University in Rhode Island, USA, on the evening of Saturday, 13 Dec 2025 GMT+7. Police confirmed several people were shot but did not disclose their condition, while officers are actively searching for the shooter.
Reports stated that at 16:22 local time, Brown University issued an emergency alert reporting an active shooter on campus. The alert urged people to lock doors, silence phones, and hide until further notice, advising if possible to flee, evacuate, hide, or as a last resort, fight.
Less than an hour later, at 17:11, Brown University issued another statement advising continued sheltering. It said, “Police have no suspect in custody and are still searching for the suspect... Brown University is coordinating with multiple law enforcement agencies at the scene and emergency medical teams are present.”
Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, “I have received a briefing on the shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island. The FBI is on the scene. The suspect is in custody. God bless the victims and their families!”
Minutes later, Trump updated his post, saying, “Brown University police have retracted their earlier statement. The suspect is ‘not yet’ in custody.”
