Update on Brown University Shooting in the U.S.: 2 Dead, 8 Critically Injured, Suspect Still at Large

Authorities are actively pursuing the suspect involved in the shooting at Brown University, an Ivy League school in Rhode Island. So far, at least two people have died, and eight others are critically injured.

Brett Smiley, Mayor of Providence, provided an update on the Brown University shooting, confirming two fatalities and eight critically injured individuals. He added that no suspect has been apprehended yet, and the investigation remains intensive.

Pam Bondi, U.S. Attorney General, stated via the platform X that the FBI, along with multiple federal agencies, has taken control of the scene and is assisting with the investigation.

The official Brown University website reported that as of 5:11 p.m. local U.S. time (ET), no suspects have been arrested.

Several local media outlets reported that the number of injured in the shooting could be as high as around 20. However, authorities have not officially confirmed these figures.

Christie Dosreis, Providence’s public safety communications officer, declined to provide further details on the number of injured or deceased, stating only that several people were shot. She emphasized the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to remain in safe locations.

U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he has been informed about the shooting and offered prayers for the victims and their families.

Brown University, located near Boston, is one of the leading educational institutions in the U.S. With around 11,000 students, this shooting has caused significant alarm within the academic community and American society.

This incident highlights the recurring problem of gun violence in the U.S., where efforts to regulate gun access continue to face political deadlock.
