A man is being praised by netizens as a hero in the Bondi Beach shooting after a video revealed he risked his life to successfully take a weapon from the gunman.
A video circulating online shows a large man wearing a white shirt intervening to disarm one of two gunmen during the shooting at a Jewish festival at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday, 14 Dec 2025 GMT+7. This act has led many netizens to hail him as a hero who saved numerous lives.
The shooting occurred around 18:45, resulting in 11 innocent victims dead and 29 injured, including two police officers. Of the two gunmen, one was fatally shot and the other critically wounded and in serious condition. Police are investigating whether there was a third attacker.
The video shows the man in the white shirt running toward a man in a dark shirt holding a rifle in a parking lot. He then grabs the gunman from behind and manages to wrest the rifle away before turning it toward the attacker. However, he did not fire the weapon as the gunman retreated to join the other assailant.

Reuters reported that the video has been verified and confirms that the armed man shown is the same individual surrounded by police in other footage.
This act of heroism quickly spread online, with people praising the courage of the man in white, whose identity remains unknown but whose actions are believed to have saved many lives.
“An Australian hero (a civilian) fought to wrest a gun from the attacker and disarmed him. Some people have courage, and some... whatever it is,” commented an X user alongside the video.

Chris Minns, Premier of New South Wales, where Sydney is located, said, “This is the most incredible footage I have ever seen. A man walked up to a gunman shooting at members of the community and disarmed him alone, risking his own life to save countless others.”
“This man is a true hero, and I have no doubt that many people are alive tonight because of his bravery.”
Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also praised this man and others who “ran toward danger to help others.”
“These Australians are heroes, and their courage saved lives,” the Australian leader said at a press conference.
