U.S. Police Arrest Suspect in Brown University Shooting

U.S. police have arrested one suspect in the shooting inside Brown University, which left 2 dead and 9 injured.

Foreign news agencies reported that on Sunday, 14 Dec 2025 GMT+7, U.S. police arrested a suspect linked to the Brown University shooting in Providence, Rhode Island, which occurred the previous day (13 Dec). The suspect is a man in his 20s, but his name has not been disclosed.

The shooting resulted in 2 fatalities and 9 injuries; among the injured, 7 are stable, 1 is in critical condition, and 1 has been discharged and allowed to go home.

The gunman opened fire in a classroom around 16:00 local time on Saturday at the Hillel Engineering Building on the eastern side of Brown University.

Christina Paxson, Brown University's president, told reporters on Saturday that all victims, both deceased and injured, were students. Some campus areas remain restricted as police continue their investigation.

Paxson said about 2,000 students were relocated to safe locations overnight and expressed her deep gratitude to students and local residents who opened their homes to provide shelter.

Earlier, police released CCTV footage of a suspect wearing all black walking away from the scene. Officials said no firearms were found during the building search.

Cash Patel, director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), posted on X that the suspect was apprehended at a hotel in Coventry early Sunday morning, based on a tip from Providence police.

Oscar Perez, Providence police chief, confirmed on Sunday that no further suspects are being sought, and officers are working with prosecutors to gather evidence.
