Cambodia Confirms Flights to and from Thailand Continue Despite Land Border Closure

Cambodia confirmed that flights between Cambodia and Thailand continue to operate normally, even though the Cambodian government has ordered a suspension of all land border crossings amid ongoing fighting along the border.

On 15 Dec 2025, a spokesperson for Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation announced that flights on the Phnom Penh–Siem Reap–Bangkok route are still operating normally and are open to passengers of all nationalities, emphasizing that the suspension order applies only to land border checkpoints and does not affect air travel.

This clarification came after Cambodia's Ministry of Interior issued a statement on 13 Dec suspending travel through Cambodia-Thailand border checkpoints to ensure the safety of citizens and foreigners, causing concern, especially within the Thai government.

However, the spokesperson confirmed that Cambodia does not intend to obstruct Thai citizens' return and that air travel remains open in full compliance with international obligations. The statement cited Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen's advice for people from both countries to avoid border areas due to ongoing security risks, also alleging that the Thai military has used fighter jets to attack several areas.

The spokesperson also stated that the Cambodian government will protect the safety of Thai residents living in Cambodia and advised Cambodian workers in Thailand to postpone returning until the border situation stabilizes.
