U.S. FBI officials revealed they successfully foiled a New Year's Eve attack plan in California and arrested four suspects.
On Monday, 15 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Los Angeles law enforcement agencies announced that authorities prevented a New Year's Eve terror plot by an extremist group intending to bomb at least five locations in Southern California.
Officials stated they arrested four suspects believed to be members of the “Turtle Island Liberation Front,” a splinter group supporting Palestine and opposing the government, last week while the group was traveling to the eastern Los Angeles desert to test improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The FBI believes they have disrupted the plot, but investigations to identify any remaining suspects are ongoing.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated on X last Sunday that agencies prevented a “major and frightening terror plot” by a “far-left” extremist group.
The four suspects—Audrey Eileen Carroll, 30; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, 41—face multiple charges including conspiracy and possession of unregistered destructive devices.
U.S. officials said in a Monday press conference that the group traveled to the desert with “precursor chemicals” and were alleged to be preparing bombs using this equipment.
Surveillance aircraft recorded their movements as FBI SWAT and agents peacefully arrested all four. Investigators learned that the targets included two American companies in the Los Angeles area, with the planned attack scheduled for midnight on New Year's Eve.
The suspects are also accused of planning to attack Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and vehicles with pipe bombs in January or February 2026. Officials quoted Carroll as saying the explosions would eliminate some of them and intimidate the rest.
