Donald Trump defended his own post attacking famous film director Rob Reiner as a deranged person after news emerged that Reiner and his wife died in a murder.
Foreign news agencies reported that U.S. President Donald Trump defended his earlier post attacking the famous director Rob Reiner as a “deranged individual” after news that he was found dead at his Los Angeles home along with his wife, sparking widespread debate.
Trump stated, “I have never been a fan of Rob Reiner in any way, form, or manner.”
In his earlier post, Trump claimed without evidence that reports said Reiner and his wife died “because of the anger he caused others through a major illness, refusing to relent, and incurable” with “Trump Derangement Syndrome”.
Trump further accused Reiner, a lifelong Democratic supporter, of being behind the Russia hoax.
The message drew widespread condemnation, including from prominent Republicans such as Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican congresswoman from Georgia who once strongly defended Trump but has recently become a critic.
She wrote on X, “This is a family tragedy, not a matter of politics or political enemies,” adding that there should be “compassion shown.”
Thomas Massie, a Republican congressman from Kentucky who often criticizes Trump, said the president’s post was inappropriate and disrespectful. “I guess my fellow GOP elected congressmen, the vice president, and White House officials will ignore this because they’re afraid? I challenge everyone to come out and defend it (Trump’s post).”
Some compared Trump’s message to his remarks about the murder of his supporter Charlie Kirk, which Trump described as “horrifying” and “unbelievable,” clearly distinguishing it from the Reiner case.
