The Russian Embassy in Thailand clarified the issue concerning Russian mercenaries allegedly hired by Cambodia to participate in the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, confirming there is no truth to the claim.
The Russian Embassy in Thailand recently posted a statement on Facebook addressing reports about Russian mercenaries, which claimed that Cambodia hired them to join the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. The post stated that
The Russian Embassy in Thailand has noted reports in some Thai media about the possible involvement of Russian citizens as mercenaries hired by Cambodia to participate in the Thailand–Cambodia border conflict.
The Russian Embassy in Thailand clarified that these reports are baseless and appear to have been fabricated by sources outside the region, aiming to undermine the rights of Russian citizens residing in Thailand as tourists or business people, thereby damaging the long-standing friendship between Russia and Thailand.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has a clear stance on the Thailand–Cambodia border conflict and has already issued clarifications on this matter, with a statement by the Foreign Ministry spokesperson on 11 December 2025.
The statement said, "Russia maintains friendly and cooperative relations with both Thailand and Cambodia. We simply reaffirm and support the peaceful resolution of this dispute."
