The Russian Investigative Committee stated that the attacker was a 15-year-old male student at the school. He first assaulted a security officer in the hallway, then fatally stabbed the 10-year-old boy in the neck and injured another school staff member. Prior to the attack, the suspect reportedly sent a message resembling a manifesto to classmates expressing hatred toward various groups. However, authorities have not officially confirmed this information.
Officials revealed that the suspect has confessed and is in custody to face legal proceedings. Local media reported that the attacker might have been inspired by the 1999 Columbine school shooting in the United States.
Russia has faced several violent school incidents in recent years. After the 2021 school shooting in Kazan, President Vladimir Putin ordered stricter gun control laws and a serious crackdown on movements that mimic violent acts in educational institutions.
