A poll shows Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 39% after Americans expressed dissatisfaction with his handling of the economy, particularly the persistently rising cost of living.
On 16 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Reuters published a joint Reuters/Ipsos poll revealing that U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating dropped to 39%, a decline of about 2% since early this month, amid American concerns over the economy and living costs.
The poll found that only 33% of respondents were satisfied with Trump’s economic management, marking the lowest level since he began his second presidential term in January. Meanwhile, confidence in controlling living costs fell to 27% from 31% earlier in December.
Even among Republican supporters, economic approval declined from 78% to 72%, reflecting growing dissatisfaction despite Trump and his allies campaigning in 2024 with promises to tackle inflation and reduce citizens’ living expenses.
At the same time, a Politico poll indicated that over 55% of Americans believe Trump’s policies have contributed to rising prices of consumer goods, especially food and housing.
