A famous South African DJ was shot dead in downtown Johannesburg. Police have not yet determined the motive and have not arrested any suspects.
Foreign news agencies reported that Mr. Warrick Stock, better known as “DJ Warrus,” a well-known South African radio and club DJ, was shot dead in the heart of Johannesburg, the country’s largest city, on the afternoon of Tuesday, 16 Dec 2025. The incident highlights the deep-rooted crime issues in South Africa.
Police stated that three suspects approached the 40-year-old famous DJ, who was standing outside the Zambesi House building near the Carlton Centre. One of them opened fire on him before they all fled. So far, police have not identified a motive and have not arrested any suspects.
CCTV footage shows a man with dreadlocks dressed in what appeared to be a security guard uniform firing at Stock before fleeing. The DJ tried to run after being shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the street.
Police added that Stock was carrying a firearm but did not use it, and no belongings were stolen during the attack. Authorities found crucial evidence such as shell casings at the scene and have called on witnesses and the public who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
South African government broadcaster SABC reported that Stock spent several hours at the building overseeing the installation of a security system. The building is currently the subject of a dispute due to mysterious individuals unlawfully occupying it.
