Rob Reiner's family has spoken out for the first time regarding the tragedy involving the renowned film director and his wife, as their son Nick has appeared in court for the first time.
On Wednesday, 17 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the heirs of the late Hollywood legend Rob Reiner came forward to speak for the first time about the murder of Reiner and his wife, and about their middle son Nick Reiner being arrested for the murder of his parents.
The bodies of the Reiner couple were found deceased last Sunday (14 Dec) inside their Los Angeles home, while Nick Reiner was taken into custody on the night of the incident and charged with murder on Tuesday (16 Dec).
“The horrific and heartbreaking loss of Rob and Michelle Reiner, our parents, is something no one should ever have to endure,” said Jake and Romy Reiner, Rob Reiner's eldest son and daughter, in a statement. “They were not only our parents but also our best friends.”
“We thank everyone for the condolences, kindness, and support pouring in, which we have received not only from family and friends but also from people across all professions.”
They also asked the public to respect their family's privacy and dignity, urging people to approach speculation with compassion and humanity. “Please remember our parents as individuals who lived exemplary lives and always shared love with others,” they said, without directly addressing the allegations against their older brother Nick.
Thirty-two-year-old Nick Reiner appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday and waived his right to enter a plea to the two counts of first-degree murder with which he has been charged.
In the proceedings, the prosecution and defense agreed to postpone the arraignment until 7 January, when Nick will have the opportunity to address the court again. Until then, he will remain in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
Prosecutors stated that if Nick pleads not guilty and is convicted, he could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. However, they have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty against him.
