Wang Yi Discusses Thai-Cambodian Tensions, Claims Both Sides Ready to De-escalate and Cease Fire

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi revealed that he has spoken with the Thai and Cambodian foreign ministers, and both sides showed willingness to reduce tensions and enforce a ceasefire.

On 18 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Geng Shuang, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, posted on his official Facebook page that Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister, had separate phone conversations with Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia, and Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Foreign Minister of Thailand.

Wang Yi stated that both Cambodia and Thailand expressed willingness to lower the level of tension and to enforce a ceasefire.

The Chinese foreign minister added that on the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, China has consistently supported peaceful negotiations, maintaining a fair and neutral stance, while supporting ASEAN’s mediation efforts.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a special envoy for Asian affairs to Cambodia and Thailand to conduct "shuttle diplomacy," with China continuing to serve as a bridge and making constructive efforts to support the restoration of peace between the two countries.
