Cambodian Media Reports Over 300,000 Citizens March for Peace, Support Thai-Cambodian Ceasefire, Urge Respect for Peace Agreement

Cambodian media reported that more than 300,000 people participated in a march in central Phnom Penh to demonstrate their support for peace and respect for the ceasefire agreement amid unresolved tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border.

On 19 December 2025 GMT+7, Cambodian news websites reported that over 300,000 Cambodian citizens, including youth, monks, and representatives from various sectors, joined the “March for Peace” event on the afternoon of 18 December in Phnom Penh. The event aimed to show support for peace and urged all parties to honor the ceasefire agreement and peaceful framework between Cambodia and Thailand.

The report stated that the event was organized by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), currently chaired by Hun Mani, Deputy Prime Minister and son of Prime Minister Hun Sen. The march began near the riverside night market, proceeded along the pedestrian street, and concluded at the Independence Monument. Over 300,000 people reportedly took part, making it the largest peace rally since the latest border tensions emerged.

The atmosphere of the march was filled with Cambodian national flags, peace messages, and participants wearing colorful outfits. Attendees included monks, the elderly, government officials, students, businesspeople, artists, athletes, and persons with disabilities. Children waved small national flags, symbolizing hope and the continuity of society.

This gathering followed a previous event in June when over 150,000 people showed support for the government's peaceful approach to resolving border issues. However, this latest assembly was several times larger amid heightened tensions after reports surfaced that the Thai military launched attacks in multiple border provinces of Cambodia on 7 December, which Cambodia stated violated the peace agreement signed on 26 October.
