Kim Jong Un Attends Opening of New Local Factory in Western Region, Emphasizes Regional Development Policy to Reduce Urban-Rural Gap

Kim Jong Un, North Korea's leader, attended the opening ceremony of a new factory in the Jangyeon district, a local facility in the western region. He emphasized the regional development policy, promoting self-reliance to create better living standards for the people.

On 19 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim Jong Un, North Korea's supreme leader, participated in the opening of a new industrial factory in Jangyeon district, South Hwanghae Province, in the western part of the country. The factory was completed under the regional development policy he is championing as a key initiative.

The report stated that Kim Jong Un cut the ribbon to open the factory and toured the production line in South Hwanghae Province. He sampled local products such as fermented wheat flour, soy sauce, and other food items produced at the facility.

This visit took place just three days after Kim Jong Un attended the opening ceremony of a new industrial complex in the Kangdong district on the outskirts of Pyongyang last Monday, accompanied by his wife Ri Sol Ju and their daughter.

Recently, North Korea has held opening ceremonies for regional factories across the country to accelerate the push for local economic development. The main goal is to reduce the gap between urban and rural areas. It is expected that the official results of this policy will be revealed at the 9th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, scheduled for early next year.

Under the regional development policy, the Workers' Party of Korea aims to elevate every city and district to become self-reliant and prosperous. The policy also seeks to concretely improve the material and cultural quality of life for people living in local communities.
