Sydney Consulate General Begins Registration for Thai Citizens to Vote Abroad

The Consulate General in Sydney opened overseas voter registration in Australia today for the first time. Registration is open until 5 January 2026 at the Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney or by mail.

The Sydney Consul General warned Thai residents in New South Wales to register for overseas voting by 5 January 2026, or they will lose the right to vote. Registration can be done at the Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney or by mail. The Consul General also reminded voters of lessons from the 2024 election, when many missed the chance to vote because they did not register in advance.

Nattaphan Trimekha, Thairath reporter in Australia, reported that this morning Thai citizens began registering at the Sydney Consulate General. Consul General Naruchai Ninnart spoke about the importance of registering for the upcoming 2026 election, emphasizing, "Thai residents in New South Wales will not be able to vote if they do not pre-register online. We invite all eligible Thai voters to register."

The Thai community in Sydney has started to see political campaigning. The Progressive Thai Party sent member James Sujinda Sengiamphaisan, head of the party's foreign affairs department, to tour Sydney Thai Town to gain votes. He was warmly welcomed by the large Thai community in Sydney, which is one of the largest Thai communities worldwide and also has the highest number of registered overseas voters globally.
