British media report that former Prince Andrew has returned his firearm license to the police amid the scandal involving Jeffrey Epstein, which led to his removal of the princely title.
BBC News reported on Tuesday, 23 Dec 2025 GMT+7, that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, or former Prince Andrew, voluntarily returned his firearm license after London Metropolitan Police officers visited Royal Lodge in Windsor last month.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said that on Wednesday, 19 Nov 2025 GMT+7, firearm licensing officers went to a residence in Windsor to request that a man in his 60s voluntarily return his firearm and shotgun licenses, without naming Andrew. They confirmed that the license was duly returned.
It remains unclear why former Prince Andrew, known for his passion for hunting, relinquished his license. However, returning a license does not mean losing the right to possess firearms, but rather that the person may only use or transport firearms under supervision.
Andrew is expected to move from Royal Lodge to Norfolk around the New Year after being stripped of his title due to his connection with Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced former financier convicted of child sexual abuse.
The former prince will relocate to an undisclosed residence within the Sandringham estate, a private property of his brother, King Charles III.
Andrew's association with Epstein drew renewed scrutiny last week after the U.S. government released photos showing him reclining with five women on his lap, as part of the U.S. Department of Justice's disclosure of the 'Epstein files.'
However, appearing in these files or photos is not evidence of criminal activity, and Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
