A shocking double incident occurred in Moscow when two Russian police officers were killed by an explosion while on duty. This happened near the location where Lieutenant General Vanil Sarvarov, a high-ranking Russian military officer, was assassinated by a car bomb last Monday.
The Russian State Investigative Committee announced that the incident occurred when two police officers noticed a man acting suspiciously and behaving oddly, prompting them to investigate. During the approach, a powerful explosion occurred, killing both officers instantly at the scene. Additionally, a third person also died, though authorities have not yet confirmed the identity.
However, a Russian Telegram news channel reported that the third deceased was the "bomber" himself, who detonated a suicide bomb as officials were approaching.
What makes this case especially important to Russian authorities is the location—close to where Lieutenant General Vanil Sarvarov, Director of Training Operations for the Russian Army's General Staff, was killed by a bomb planted under his vehicle two days earlier. Russian officials believe Ukrainian intelligence was behind that attack.
While Ukraine has not officially admitted involvement, the Ukrainian unofficial database website Myrotvorets, which lists alleged war criminals and traitors, updated Lieutenant General Sarvarov's status, marking the 56-year-old general as "eliminated."
Currently, Russian authorities have opened a criminal investigation on charges of "murder of law enforcement officers" and "illegal trade or possession of explosives." Throughout nearly four years of conflict, many key figures in the Russian military and war supporters have been repeatedly assassinated, with Ukrainian military intelligence admitting responsibility for several operations.
The area around the incident has been tightly sealed off to allow forensic units to investigate possible connections between this suicide bombing and the earlier assassination of Lieutenant General Sarvarov.
