Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, posted on Facebook after a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stating that the U.S. wants to see peace between Cambodia and Thailand and will try to assist.
On the night of Thursday, 25 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, posted an official message on his Facebook page revealing that he had a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the issues at the Cambodia–Thailand border.
Hun Manet's message stated: “Tonight, 25 December 2025, I discussed by phone with Mr. Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, about ways to reach a ceasefire agreement along the Cambodia–Thailand border and to continue implementing the peace agreements to achieve lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand.”
“Secretary Rubio said that the United States desires to see lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand and will try to provide assistance to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible.”
“I also emphasized Cambodia’s firm commitment to upholding the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration and expressed hope that both sides will continue cooperating under all existing agreements.”
“Cambodia maintains its position to resolve border issues peacefully, following previously agreed principles and mechanisms, to address the Cambodia–Thailand border issues and build sustainable peace between the two countries.”
