Knife-Wielding Attacker Stabs People and Sprays Bleach in Japanese Factory, Injuring 15 Over Workplace Bullying

A knife-wielding attacker stabbed people at a Japanese tire factory and used a substance believed to be bleach in the attack, injuring 15. The motive is suspected to be revenge for bullying.

Foreign news agencies reported that a former employee was arrested after stabbing eight people and spraying a chemical suspected to be bleach, injuring another seven, at a tire factory in central Japan last Friday (26 Dec 2025). The attacker claimed he had been bullied by other employees.

The Fujisan Nanto Fire Department stated that eight victims were taken to hospital after the man stabbed people inside the Yokohama Rubber Co. factory in Mishima city, Shizuoka Prefecture, west of Tokyo.

The fire department also told the Associated Press that among those stabbed, five were in critical condition. No further details have been released.

Shizuoka Prefectural Police said the suspect, 38-year-old former employee Masaki Oyama of Yokohama Rubber, was restrained by other workers until police arrived. He was arrested on attempted murder charges. His main target was a 28-year-old factory employee whom Oyama said had bullied him.

Japan’s major newspaper Asahi reported, citing investigators, that the suspect carried a survival knife and wore a mask resembling a gas mask during the attack.

The fire department added that seven others were injured by being sprayed with bleach during the assault and were taken to hospital for treatment.
