China Announces 20 Million Yuan Humanitarian Aid to Cambodia

China has announced humanitarian aid worth 20 million yuan to Cambodia while Thai and Cambodian ministers traveled to China to reinforce the ceasefire agreement.

On Sunday, 28 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Chinese authorities announced emergency humanitarian aid to Cambodia totaling over 20 million yuan (approximately 88.6 million baht) to assist displaced persons.

Wang Wenbin, China's ambassador to Cambodia, posted on Facebook, “The first batch of aid from China, including food, tents, and blankets, arrived in Cambodia on Sunday.”

China's move coincides with the start of two-day talks in China between the foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, as the Chinese government seeks to expand its role as mediator in the border dispute between the two countries, just one day after a new ceasefire agreement was signed.

The ceasefire agreement, signed last Saturday, calls for an end to weeks-long fighting along the border area, which has resulted in over 100 deaths and displaced more than 500,000 people across both countries.

The ceasefire includes a 72-hour observation period, after which Thailand agreed to repatriate 18 Cambodian soldiers who had been detained since the fighting in July; releasing these soldiers was a key demand from Cambodia.

Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Thailand's foreign minister, and Prak Sokhonn, Cambodia's foreign minister, are scheduled to meet in Yunnan province in southwestern China, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi acting as mediator.

A statement from Sihasak's office said the talks aim to ensure the ceasefire continues and promote lasting peace between the two nations. Prak Sokhonn expressed deep gratitude for China’s “crucial role” in supporting the ceasefire after discussions with Wang Yi.

Wang Yi is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the Thai and Cambodian ministers and a trilateral meeting on Monday, 29 Dec 2025 GMT+7.
