Trump Calls Putin Before Zelensky’s Florida Visit to Discuss Peace Plan

Donald Trump revealed he spoke by phone with Vladimir Putin before the Ukrainian leader came to meet him in Florida to discuss a revised peace plan.

On Sunday, 28 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Donald Trump, the U.S. president, posted on Truth Social that he had a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, before welcoming Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, at the Mar-a-Lago resort in the afternoon local time.

“I just finished a very good and constructive phone discussion with Russian President Putin,” Trump’s message stated. He added that the meeting with Zelensky would take place in the main dining room of the Mar-a-Lago resort and invited journalists to observe.

The Russian Kremlin government also confirmed that the phone call between the two leaders did indeed take place.

In another part of his earlier post, Trump praised his administration’s role as a global peacemaker, citing a new ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, while criticizing the United Nations for providing "very little help" in resolving various conflicts, including in Ukraine.

“Perhaps the United States has become the 'real United Nations' by now,” Trump stated.

Zelensky has now arrived in Florida and is scheduled to meet Donald Trump at 1:00 p.m. Eastern U.S. time. The two will discuss a revised 20-point peace plan, with the U.S. as the primary coordinator. However, Russian authorities have yet to acknowledge the plan.

Zelensky said earlier, “Many things can be decided before the New Year,” adding that Russia launched thousands of attacks this past week.
