
Winter storm "Johannes" swept through several Nordic countries, resulting in widespread power outages, halted travel, and paralyzed transportation in multiple nations.
On 29 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the Swedish Meteorological Office issued a strong wind warning for most of the northern half of the country as storm Johannes passed through. One fatality was reported: a man around 50 years old crushed by a fallen tree at the Kungsberget ski resort in southern Sweden, according to local media and police reports. In the north, the regional utility company Hemab disclosed that one of its employees died in an accident while working amid severe weather conditions.
Additionally, Swedish police reported that a man around 60 years old was crushed by a falling tree while working in the forested area of Hofors, in east-central Sweden, and later died at a hospital.
The storm caused power outages affecting tens of thousands of homes across Sweden, Norway, and Finland. In Sweden alone, over 40,000 homes lost electricity, and many train services were canceled, according to news agency reports. Furthermore, flights, trains, and ferries in various parts of the Nordic countries were canceled. Roads and rail lines were also impacted by strong winds and severe weather conditions.
