Hun Manet sent a message to the people, military, and police, affirming an immediate ceasefire along the Thailand-Cambodia border. He stressed that this is not a surrender but a choice to protect civilian lives after clashes caused 32 civilian deaths and 93 injuries.
On 28 December 2025 GMT+7, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet posted on Facebook addressing the military, police, and citizens of Cambodia. He stated that the country is facing tragedy from war once again, despite having achieved complete peace since 1998. He emphasized that Cambodians deeply value peace after enduring wars and genocide for centuries.
Hun Manet stated that the Cambodian government is committed to resolving issues peacefully, respecting international law, the United Nations Charter, and ASEAN principles. The government has made every effort to negotiate to end military confrontations before the situation escalated.
The Prime Minister revealed that after patient negotiations, Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an “Immediate Ceasefire on the Spot,” effective from 12:00 on 27 December. He emphasized that this ceasefire decision is not a defeat, not a trade of sovereignty for peace, nor a renunciation of the right to self-defense, but a choice prioritizing the lives and well-being of the people.
Hun Manet reported that over half a million refugees are awaiting return home, thousands of children await returning to school, and many families of military and police personnel anxiously await their loved ones from the front lines. Meanwhile, the recent clashes have claimed at least 32 civilian lives and injured 93.
Additionally, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the United States, China, and ASEAN countries, especially Malaysia as ASEAN Chair, for their role in supporting the ceasefire process. He affirmed Cambodia's sincere commitment to the agreement and welcomed international community involvement in monitoring, particularly ASEAN observers.
