Zelensky Denies Allegations Ukraine Sent Drones to Attack Putins Residence

Zelensky denies allegations from Russian officials that Kyiv sent nearly a hundred drones to attack Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence, while Putin affirmed that there would be a harsh retaliation.

Foreign news agencies reported on Monday, 29 Dec 2025 GMT+7, that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied Russia's accusations that Ukraine sent drones to attack one of President Vladimir Putin's residences and accused Moscow of trying to obstruct peace negotiations.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine deployed 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to attack Putin's official residence in the Novgorod region in northwestern Russia overnight, but all were intercepted, with no injuries or damage reported.

Zelensky rejected these claims via X, calling them “typical Russian lies” aimed at giving the Kremlin government a pretext to continue attacking Ukraine.

Zelensky also accused Russia of previously targeting government buildings in Kyiv and said, “It is crucial that the world does not remain silent. We cannot allow Russia to destroy efforts to build lasting peace.”

Russian authorities stated they will review their position on peace talks. It remains unclear where Putin was located at the time of the alleged attack.

“Considering the depths of depravity of the criminal regime in Kyiv, which has adopted a state terrorism policy, Russia’s stance on negotiations will be reconsidered,” Lavrov said.

However, Russia’s Tass news agency reported that Lavrov concluded by saying Russia does not intend to withdraw from negotiations with the United States.

Meanwhile, the U.S. White House revealed on Monday that President Trump had “completed a positive phone conversation” with Putin following discussions between the U.S. and Ukraine on Sunday.

Russian foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov told reporters on Monday that during the talks, Putin pointed out that the alleged attack on his residence occurred almost immediately after the negotiations between Donald Trump and Zelensky, which the U.S. regarded as a success.

Ushakov also claimed, “The U.S. president was shocked by this information. He felt anger and said he could not believe such a reckless act took place. It was also indicated that this would undoubtedly affect how the U.S. works with Zelensky.”

However, the U.S. White House did not comment on the alleged attack claimed by Russia.

Ushakov added that Putin declared this “reckless terrorist act” would be met with the “most severe” retaliation.
