Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to meet Donald Trump in Florida and they discussed multiple issues, including Gaza and Iran, with Trump warning not to resume weapons development.
On Monday, 29 Dec 2025 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Mar-a-Lago resort for an important discussion to advance the fragile Gaza ceasefire plan to its next phase.
The two leaders also discussed Iran, with Trump stating that if Tehran began rebuilding nuclear facilities, the U.S. would “destroy them completely.”
Trump downplayed rumors of tension with Netanyahu, saying, “He can be very difficult,” but added that Israel “might not survive” without Netanyahu’s leadership following Hamas’s attack on 7 Oct 2023.
At a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump praised the meeting’s efficiency but acknowledged that despite minimal differences, they still disagreed on how to handle violence by Jewish settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
“We had a big and lengthy discussion about the West Bank. I won’t say we agree 100% on this, but we will reach a conclusion on the West Bank,” Trump told reporters.
When asked if there were unresolved issues, Trump told CNN, “I don’t want to say (details). There will be an announcement at the right time, but he (Netanyahu) will do what’s right.”
Trump said Hamas will have very little time to disarm before moving to the second phase of the peace plan and expressed no concern over Israel’s actions or the speed of progressing to phase two.
“I’m not worried about what Israel is doing. I worry more about what others are doing or not doing. Israel is following the plan. They are very strong,” Trump told reporters, adding, “Israel is executing the plan 100%.”
Regarding Iran, the U.S. leader said Iran might be trying to rebuild weapons capabilities at a different site than where the U.S. struck earlier this year.
“I hope Iran is not trying to rearm as I’ve read they are building weapons and other things,” Trump said. “If so, they probably won’t use the same place we completely destroyed but might use another location.”
Trump warned Iran again about reviving its missile program, threatening “very severe” consequences if Iran continues, and said that although he doesn’t believe Iran seeks nuclear expansion, he is concerned Iran “might be acting improperly” without specifying further.
“If they do that, we will have no choice but to quickly eliminate that buildup,” Trump said. “We know where they’re heading and what they’re doing, and I hope they won’t actually do it.”
Trump concluded, “This is just what we’re hearing, but usually where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”
