
A powerful explosion struck in the midst of New Year celebrations at a famous Swiss ski resort while tourists were counting down to welcome the new year, causing many deaths and injuries.
Valais cantonal police stated the incident occurred around 01:30 local time inside the "Le Constellation" bar, a popular nightlife spot among tourists. At the time of the explosion, more than 100 people were inside the building. The exact cause of the blast remains unknown, with numerous injured and multiple fatalities reported.
Swiss media released images showing the building on fire, while numerous rescue workers and emergency responders rushed to the scene to assist the injured amid chaotic and panic-stricken conditions.
Authorities have set up an information center and hotline to support affected families, while police acknowledged that the investigation is still in its early stages.
Crans-Montana is an internationally renowned luxury ski town located in the Valais canton, approximately 40 kilometers from the Matterhorn peak, and is a popular destination for tourists worldwide. Police plan to hold an official press conference soon.
