President Donald Trump, aged 79, spoke openly to a major media outlet to address his health, affirming he remains strong despite scrutiny over appearing drowsy during meetings and bruises on his hand. He revealed his secret of taking an aspirin overdose for over 25 years to prevent "blood thickening," dislikes exercise because it is "boring," and admitted using makeup to conceal bruises to maintain his image.
As Donald Trump made history as the oldest sitting president at 79, questions arose about his physical fitness following images of him appearing drowsy in meetings or struggling to hear questions. Nevertheless, Trump called The Wall Street Journal directly to assert that his health remains "perfect" and expressed irritation that this topic keeps being debated endlessly.
Trump revealed interesting details about his daily routine and medical history, admitting to taking a 325 milligram aspirin daily—much higher than the medically recommended 81 milligrams—for over 25 years. He explained this was to prevent his blood from thickening and importantly, he "follows the routine" without change because he fears bad luck.
He acknowledged that the bruises on his hand are due to fragile skin, a side effect of aspirin, so he carries makeup to quickly cover any bruises in just 10 seconds if his hand gets bumped.
Besides playing golf, he completely rejects walking or running on a treadmill, finding it "boring."
Trump corrected previous information about his October medical exam at Walter Reed Medical Center, admitting it was a CT scan, not an MRI as he had earlier told the media. His personal physician, Navy Commander Sean Conley, confirmed that the results were "normal" with no cardiovascular problems detected.
Regarding photos showing him apparently asleep or not hearing questions, Trump explained that he was merely closing his eyes to "relax," not actually dozing off. The media's portrayal of him as sleeping was actually a moment when he was "blinking."
As for swollen legs, after being diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, he refuses to wear compression socks because he dislikes them, instead choosing to get up and walk away from his desk frequently.
His personal physician summarized in a statement that President Trump is in "excellent health" and fully capable of performing his duties as Commander-in-Chief.
