The US Attorney General declared firmly that Nicolás Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, will face the American justice system on US soil, in US courts, following reports that Maduro has been arrested.
On Saturday, 3 Jan 2026, US Attorney General Pam Bondi posted a statement saying that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro will face "the full wrath of the American justice system on American soil, in American courts very soon."
Bondi's statement came after the US launched attacks on Venezuela, with news reports claiming that Maduro and his wife have been arrested and are being taken to the US, although his exact whereabouts have not yet been officially confirmed.
Maduro is charged by the US with several offenses, including conspiracy to commit terrorist drug trafficking, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices to oppose the United States.
Bondi also thanked former President Trump and the US military, praising them for "carrying out a remarkable and highly successful mission in arresting these two alleged international drug traffickers."
