Venezuela Appeals to the World to Condemn the U.S., Insists Maduro Remains the Countrys Leader

Venezuelan authorities have called on the world to take action against U.S. attacks, affirming that Mr. Nicolas Maduro remains the country's president and demanding the U.S. return him.

Foreign news agencies reported on 3 Jan 2026 that Diosdado Cabello, Venezuela's Minister of the Interior, urged the public to remain calm after the U.S. launched military strikes on multiple locations in Venezuela and arrested President Nicolas Maduro along with his wife for prosecution in the United States.

According to Reuters, Cabello called on the people to trust their leader and the nation's military, stating that “the world needs to raise its voice against this aggression (by the U.S.) at this time.”

Meanwhile, Ivan Gil, Venezuela's Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that Nicolas Maduro remains the country's president despite reports of his arrest by the U.S.

“The constitution clearly states that the duly elected president, or constitutional president, is Nicolas Maduro Moros, and the U.S. government must immediately return him to Venezuela because this is a violation of the law,” Gil said on state television.

Gil affirmed that the constitution remains sacred and continues to govern the country. “Institutions are working at full capacity. Our military has deployed personnel, as have the police and civil society. All sectors are mobilizing to defend the homeland and sovereignty. Have confidence that this is a strong state; our constitution is stable and robust enough to face this situation or any other, as we have demonstrated throughout our history.”

Leaders from several Latin American countries also reacted to the U.S. attack. Gabriel Boric, President of Chile, expressed concern and condemned the U.S. military operation.

At the same time, Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia, revealed that his country is deploying troops along the border with Venezuela and called on the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations (UN) to immediately hold meetings regarding the U.S. attack.

Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of Cuba, stated that his country condemns the attack and urges the international community to respond promptly to the U.S.'s criminal aggression against Venezuela.

Irfan Ali, President of Guyana, which has a longstanding territorial dispute with Venezuela, said his country is closely monitoring the situation and that its security forces are fully mobilized according to established security plans.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, said, “Trinidad and Tobago continues to maintain peaceful relations with the people of Venezuela.”
