Trump Admits Americans Injured, Helicopter Shot During Venezuela Raid

Donald Trump admitted that some Americans were injured and a helicopter was shot during the raid to capture Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuelan leader, but insisted that not a single aircraft was lost.

On Saturday, 3 Jan 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke to the media about the U.S. military operation in Venezuela, during which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were arrested and are being brought to the United States to face multiple charges.

At one point, Trump said he believed no Americans died during the operation to capture President Nicolás Maduro, although some were injured while attempting to make the arrest at a location Trump described as heavily guarded.

“I don't think anyone died. I have to say that because a few people were shot, but they are back and appear to be in fairly good condition,” Trump told Fox News. He added that one helicopter was shot during the operation, but no aircraft were lost.

“We didn't lose any aircraft. Every one came back. One was hit pretty hard — it was a helicopter — but we brought it back,” Trump said.

Earlier, Trump said he was weighing next steps for Venezuela but had not yet expressed support for María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

“We are deciding on that now. We can't risk letting someone come in and just take over what he (Maduro) left behind. So we are deciding on this, and we will be very involved,” Trump told Fox News.

When pressed on whether he would support Machado, Trump declined to give a clear endorsement. “We will have to consider that,” Trump said.
