China's foreign minister reiterated that China opposes the use of force and the imposition of one country's will on another. He revealed that President Xi Jinping's special envoy met Nicolás Maduro just hours before the United States launched an operation to overthrow power.
On 5 January 2025 GMT+7, China's state news website CCTV reported that tensions in Venezuela continue to escalate on the global stage. Wang Yi, China's Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued a clear statement opposing the use or threat of force, as well as any attempt by one country to impose its will on another. He stated that no country should act as the world's policeman or international judge.
This statement was made during the 7th round of strategic consultations between China and Pakistan held in Beijing on 4 January. Wang Yi noted that the current international situation is marked by volatility, complexity, and intensifying unilateral use of power, stressing that the sovereignty and security of all countries must be protected under international law.
Wang Yi said China is ready to work with the global community, including Pakistan, to uphold the United Nations Charter, maintain international moral principles, and promote peace, development, and the building of a global community with a shared future.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that Liu Xiaoqi, President Xi Jinping's special envoy for Latin America and the Caribbean affairs, traveled to meet Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in Caracas last Friday, just hours before the U.S. launched a military operation leading to a power shift in Venezuela.
The meeting included senior Chinese representatives such as the Chinese ambassador to Venezuela. Maduro expressed gratitude to President Xi Jinping and praised China's leadership role on the global stage. The Venezuelan government stated that the meeting reaffirmed the multipolar world concept and the close relationship between Beijing and Venezuela amid unilateral Western sanctions.
Venezuela emphasized that China and Venezuela are strategic partners tested over time, standing united to protect sovereign development in the Global South. China has yet to officially disclose details of the discussions.
