Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuela's Vice President, has been sworn in as acting president just days after Nicolás Maduro was seized by U.S. forces in an apartment.
On the afternoon of Monday, 5 Jan 2025 local time, Delcy Rodriguez officially took the oath as Venezuela’s acting president, with Jorge Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly and her brother, presiding over the ceremony.
The acting leader of Venezuela said she took the oath with a heavy heart over what she described as the “kidnapping” of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores.
“I come here as the Vice President under Nicolás Maduro, the constitutionally legitimate President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to take the oath of office,” she said.
