A tense incident occurred in Honduras when an explosive device was thrown at a female opposition MP inside the parliament building just minutes before a meeting. Authorities had to evacuate and secure the area rapidly.
Social media flooded with videos capturing the moment a grenade was thrown at a female MP from the National Party, the opposition in Honduras, just minutes before the parliamentary session began. The grenade struck her directly on the back, but fortunately, the explosion was not powerful, and there were no reports of casualties or injuries from the incident.
This alarming event took place on 8 January in Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras, when an unidentified individual threw an explosive device at a member of the National Congress shortly after Luis Redondo, the Speaker of the House, convened a session to report on the results of the general election held on 30 November.
The explosion caused panic inside the parliament building, prompting security personnel to swiftly evacuate all members of parliament and staff from the premises.
Authorities in Honduras are currently investigating to identify the perpetrator and their motives. Although there were no serious injuries initially, the violent incident has raised significant concerns about the country’s security situation and political stability.
