Trump Warns Cuba to Make a Deal Before Its Too Late

Donald Trump posted a message warning Cuba to quickly make a deal before it is too late, as the oil and money they have continuously received from Venezuela will soon stop.

On Sunday, 11 Jan 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump warned Cuba to make a deal before it is too late, because from now on, the oil and money sent from Venezuela to Cuba will cease, following the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro on 3 Jan.

Venezuela has long been a staunch ally of Cuba, and it is believed that Venezuela supplied about 35,000 barrels of oil per day to the island nation, but Trump stated this is coming to an end.

“Cuba has survived for many years on vast amounts of oil and money from Venezuela. In exchange, Cuba provided ‘security’ for the last two dictatorial leaders of Venezuela. But that will no longer be the case!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Sunday.

“There will be no more oil or money sent to Cuba. None! I seriously recommend they make a deal before it’s too late,” Trump stated, without specifying the terms of the deal or the consequences Cuba might face.

Meanwhile, Cuba has provided a personal security team for Maduro for many years. The Cuban government said 32 of its citizens were killed during U.S. operations in Caracas, Venezuela's capital.

Trump said, "Most of those Cubans died from U.S. attacks last week, and Venezuela no longer wants protection from the thugs and extortionists who have held them hostage for years."

“Now Venezuela has the United States—the most powerful military in the world (by far!)—to protect them, and we will certainly protect them,” Trump’s post stated.

Although the Trump administration has not outlined a clear plan for Cuba, the U.S. president previously said military intervention was unnecessary because the country is “already ready to collapse.”

Trump also shared a social media post suggesting Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State of Cuban descent, become president of Cuba, writing, “Sounds good to me!”
